Yes it will and one of my play throughs of this game I want to name each pokemon after a Avie Site Friend. I already named a Skitty Mika. XD

I'm not sure what I will do to be honest if I reset game once completed. I know I want to use a different starter the next time around because I always do. XD

I know there is Wallace in Hoeen the Water gym where as Winona was Normal type and second one in Johto from what I heard.
