One of my first jobs had mandatory overtime. I could get out of it without question if needed, but it was standard operating procedure. The funny things is while I thought it was nice to get paid overtime (time and a half!), in the end, my paycheck at the end of the week wasn't much more than just normal full time work. IIRC, they tax overtime differently or it's just another rigged system to get more out of us... :/
