From my experience in both shopping in one and owning one on another site years ago. It's Artist sets up shop either it's bribe/can offer or it's a set price for artwork. Then a costumer(user) puts in a request of what they want drawn in the style of what you do. Like headshots, waist-ups, busts, and chibis just to name a few. The select the style plus what they want drawn weather it's a current avatar, an OC or a previously done avatar. Then the artist puts them in a slot and they draw the piece for them. Once the user has the art they pay the artist the prearranged currency and or items.

Ahhh on Forum sites its only the in game currency that you get. XD Nope I don't have an art shop but I do have a Art Gallery of stuff I drew. XD
