Random thoughts on the book so far:

Very lyrical prose. It's so satisfying to read, even more satisfying to say out loud. I am going to pull the author's prose apart and figure out how he does it.
Big themes seem to be: the difference between story and reality, and how powerful a mere 'story' can become.
Neat framing device: the book (maybe even entire trilogy?) is essentially a transcript of an autobiography of a living legend.
Kvothe, the main character, is interesting, though very annoying at times. He's very clever, but also incredibly dumb, and too egotistical.
Given the MC's personality, background, and theme, unreliable narrator is in full force. Imagining which parts were made up, or highly embellished "then everyone clapped" moments makes the story more engaging.
Magic system makes so much sense IMHO.
I have no idea what in the world the author is doing with the world's economy.
Based on the bulk of the story so far, this could be renamed as "Kvothe and The Financial Struggles of A Working, Emancipated Magic Student".
Has extremely anime moments, which I'm guessing is the MC's embellishments at work.
There is a character that is way too similar to an OC I have and I cannot read the scenes featuring him without laughing.
