I'm craving a new job.

One of my work friends left today, my other work friends are looking for new jobs, my supervisor announced she's leaving so my team is being merged with a team where the supervisor is horrible. Everything is changing for the worst since the company announced they are moving out the city. (Sorry, having a really bad day).

Oh, so sorry to hear about the job situation. Would it be possible to follow your co-workers to the new company?

They're trying to leave before the company moves early next year so they're applying for anything. My friend that left today got a job at a bar. Another has applied for retail work - I won't be surprised if she gets it. I doubt I could follow any of them as I'm only looking at office work (and wishfully hoping an archaeology based job turns up in my area lol). I can still easily commute to where my current employer is moving to, so I can still hold a job while I look, but it won't be the same. It's getting me down.

When one door closes, another opens. Keep positive and I'm sure you'll end up at a better place in the end!

I was thinking along the same lines... perhaps you can volunteer a little in the hopes of meeting people in the industry so to speak.

The only paid work I could probably get at a museum is in a gift shop or café sadly. A lot of museums want people to have master degrees in museum management / heritage these days. I did one heritage module for my undergraduate degree and I found it so boring (so much theory) that I only just got an okay grade in it. Thanks for suggesting it though. I wish I could volunteer but working full time as it is, I have barely any free time.

No worries. I understand. My imagination thinks that when it comes to volunteers, they can't be too choosy when and how long you show up for. I would think archeologists are chronically short handed for digs etc., so if it were me, I think I'd welcome any volunteers. It's just a matter of finding those circles.

Believe it or not, I used to offer working for free "to get my foot in the door" and was always paid. I think they liked the idea that I showed greater interest than they're used to (most who don't want to work period).

The great thing about volunteering is you're the one in control.
